Microsoft Surface: Full Review

After all those in-depth speculations, Microsoft's finally unveiled its chic tablet, Surface. The software giant has made its presence felt for the past three decades, crafting ingenious software for computing, but this is the first tablet that it has ever built. Microsoft was a late entrant into the mobile world that had just two powerful entities – Apple and Android. Microsoft’s initial smartphones didn’t get much love and the company had begun to lose ground in the mobile terrain. The company bounced back with the tiled Windows Phone UI, and then made the big announcement of Windows 8, which would offer seamless experience for various platforms, like smartphones, tablets and desktops.

Design
Microsoft displayed the Surface for Windows RT, featuring a classy and chic look. The Surface for Windows 8 Pro is said to feature the same design, but it will be a tad thicker and heavier. The casing of Surface has been created using a unique approach, called VaporMg (pronounced Vapor-Mag), a combination of material selection and process to mould metal and deposit particles that creates a finish akin to a luxury watch. This finish helps the tablet exhibit a premium look and feel. Both tablets go beyond the existing screen sizes, and brings a large screen experience with displays measuring 10.6-inch. Both feature a high-res, 16:9 ClearType screen. It has edges angled at 22 degrees, a natural position for the PC at rest or in active use, letting the hardware fade into the background and the software stand out. The Surface for Windows RT is 9.3mm slim and weighs 676 grams, while the Surface for Windows 8 Pro is a tad heavy at 903 grams and 13.5mm in thickness. Moreover, Microsoft has also added in the integral kickstand that adds viewing convenience. It is has been integrated using the VaporMg and is a part of the device without adding external bulk.

iOS 6 Preveiw

iOS 6 gives you more features to make the things you do every day even better. It’s coming this fall, and it’s free and easy to upgrade wirelessly on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch — the moment it’s available.

MAPS -maps takes a whole new turn

Beautifully designed from the ground up (and the sky down), Maps will change the way you see the world.1 Map elements are vector based, so graphics and text are incredibly detailed — even when you zoom all the way in — and panning is smooth. Tilt and rotate to view an area, and Maps keeps the names of streets and places where they belong. Get visual and spoken turn-by-turn navigation and real-time traffic updates. Even soar over cityscapes to see the sights from the air in amazing, high-resolution quality. Learn more about Maps

SIRI -now ask even more of siri

With iOS 6, Siri understands more languages, works in more countries, and is available on the new iPad.2 So you can get more things done in more places around the world. Want to know the latest scores and stats for your favorite teams and players? Thanks to iOS 6, Siri knows the answers. Or maybe it’s movie night. Siri can show you the latest reviews and showtimes. Find the best restaurants in town and make reservations. Even open your apps for you — no tapping required. Say "Launch Flight Tracker" or "Open Where’s My Water" and Siri does just that. You can even use Siri to post Facebook updates and tweet for you, too. Learn more about Siri in iOS 6

FACEBOOK - integrated throughout ios

Now it’s easier than ever to interact with the world’s largest social network. And there’s no need to leave your app to do it. Share a photo to Facebook right from Camera or Photos. Post your location right from Maps. Brag about a high score right from Game Center. If you have your hands full, just ask Siri to post for you. You need to sign in to Facebook only once, and you’ll be off and sharing. Never miss another birthday or get-together, since Facebook events are integrated into Calendar. And your Facebook friends’ profile information is integrated into Contacts, so when they update an email address or phone number you automatically stay up to date. Now that’s something to post about.

Shared Photo Streams -share select photos with select audience

Now you can share just the photos you want, with just the people you choose. Simply select photos from the Photos app, tap the Share button, choose who you want to share your photos with, and they’re on their way. Friends using iCloud on an iOS 6 device or a Mac running Mountain Lion get the photos delivered immediately in the Photos app or iPhoto.3 You can even view shared photo streams on Apple TV. If the folks you're sharing with aren’t using an Apple device, they can view your photos on the web. People can like individual photos and make comments. And you can share as much as you want: Your shared photo streams don’t count against your iCloud storage, and they work over Wi-Fi and cellular networks.Learn more about Shared photo streams in iOS 6

Passbook -just the ticket

Your boarding passes, movie tickets, retail coupons, loyalty cards, and more are now all in one place. With Passbook, you can scan your iPhone or iPod touch to check in for a flight, get into a movie, and redeem a coupon. You can also see when your coupons expire, where your concert seats are, and the balance left on that all-important coffee bar card. Wake your iPhone or iPod touch, and passes appear on your Lock screen at the appropriate time and place — like when you reach the airport or walk into the store to redeem your gift card or coupon. And if your gate changes after you’ve checked in for your flight, Passbook will even alert you to make sure you’re not relaxing in the wrong terminal.
Facetime

FaceTime now works over cellular networks as well as Wi-Fi, so you can make and receive FaceTime calls wherever you happen to be.4 You can even make and receive FaceTime calls on your iPad using your phone number. That means you can use FaceTime wherever you are, on any device. And never miss another wink, smile, air kiss, or eye roll.

Facebook Launches Its Own Camera App

Huge news came out of the Facebook universe with little to no warning: Facebook has launched its own camera app. Seemingly out of nowhere, the social networking giant has launched its own “Facebook Camera” camera app that, of course, connects directly to your Facebook account, making it that much easier to take, upload, tag, and comment on your photos.
The app also comes loaded with a few features to make it even more useful: You can crop, rotate and add filters to any picture in your camera roll in app (Instagram inspired anyone?). It also all but replaces the regular Facebook app for those people who only use Facebook for photos by offering a “news feed” that shows only pictures as its home page. No more status updates, if all you’re using Facebook for is uploading and looking at pictures, you may stop using the regular app all together.
Needless to say this is pretty big news in the world of camera apps, news that probably has some app developers groaning right about now. For more information on the app click here to grab it straight from the app store

Nokia Shutting Down Ovi Share Services from 30th May

Nokia in an attempt to revise its services is closing down one  more of its old services down the line following the Ovi Contacts and Ovi Mail. The service being shut down now is the “Ovi Share”. The Ovi Share was a service used by Nokia users to share file content online, generally photos and videos.

Though, it seems to us like Nokia has followed the recent pattern adopted by HTC which is shutting down its HTCSense.com and gave users a span of a month to download and backup their data which was present on the site, in the form of a single file. Similarly, Nokia has announced that it will be closing the Ovi Share services indefinitely from 30th May, 2102 onwards and the users can download and backup their content by logging in here. In the email sent by Nokia to all its customers, Nokia also stated that they have disabled new user registration as well as uploading of new content via Ovi Share services already, but the users can still have access to the newly introduced Nokia Services with the same Ovi Share credentials they used to access their account
